Rachel's Vineyard Retreat

Experiences of grief and pain are often unnamed and unspoken but both typically accompany abortion and miscarriage. Although the 2 experiences are different in some ways, often there are similar struggles. Women, men, and couples - anyone affected by pregnancy loss - are encouraged to attend the Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat.

Nearly 1 in 4 women and men have been affected by an abortion and 1 in 5 are affected by miscarriage. So often, women and men impacted by pregnancy loss have suffered deep wounds, including powerful feelings of abandonment, shame, anger, and loss. Since there is carefully guarded secrecy around pregnancy loss, these hidden, painful, emotions may cause other struggles such as substance abuse, bonding issues with children, depression, eating disorders, suicidal thoughts, and feelings of unworthiness.

If the quality of your life is affected or you have never completely recovered from pregnancy loss, Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat is a place where you can find support, compassion and healing.

This international ministry is a confidential, safe place to share your story and discover God’s heart of compassion and mercy. The retreat is a non-denominational, interfaith environment offering Biblical principles and perspectives for restoration.

This retreat is being held at a local retreat center. The financial value of the retreat is $500. However, retreatants are charged only $200 which includes single occupancy accommodations for two nights, all meals, and retreat supplies. Scholarships are available. Contact us at hope@realoptions.net for more information.

This is a valuable place to be kind to yourself and explore spiritual renewal!

"The Journey to Manhood" Retreat

"The Journey to Manhood" Retreat

The Journey to Manhood

Theme:

Have you been fully initiated into manhood?  Are you seeking an alternative path to manhood fulfillment other than what’s offered by the Silicon Valley?  Have you plateaued in your spiritual growth? Do you desire to deepen your relationship with Christ? Is Christ whispering to your aching heart as you struggle with the demanding and often competing roles of husband, father, employee and man of faith?

This is an opportunity for you to fellowship with Christian men seeking answers to similar questions as yourself.

Overview:
For most of us men, our relationship with our earthly dads have been less than perfect and, as a result, our journey into Christian manhood has been hindered.  But hope is never lost. Come and set out on a masculine journey to discover your true, perfect Father in Heaven who desires to heal, initiate and mold you into a man like Christ!  We will venture through the six stages of masculine development as described by John Eldredge in his book, “Fathered By God”:

Stage I: Boyhood - Am I the beloved son of the Father?

Stage II: Cowboy - Do I have what it takes to make it in the world?

Stage III: Warrior - Am I willing to fight a battle to defend truth, goodness, and beauty?

Stage IV: Lover - Am I able to behold Beauty?

Stage V: King - Whose Kingdom am I building?

Stage VI: Sage - What do I want to be my greatest contribution?

Background:

The weekend is designed by a small brotherhood of 8 men and 6 priests who attended the 2018 “Fathered By God” program. These men are jazzed about the opportunity for other men of faith to experience the same transformational breakthroughs in their respective spiritual journey into manhood as these men just experienced!

Activities:

The weekend is relaxed and interactive, comprised of heartfelt testimonies, exchanging personal experiences, and encountering the singing of Earl Rivard, our awesome minstrel.  Additionally, we incorporate outdoor activities and a Friday and Saturday evening bonfire to promote brotherly bonding! At your leisure, you may choose quiet time for personal introspection and spiritual reflection.  Should you desire, priests will be accessible for discussion, confession, and private conversation.

Cost:  $300 (financial assistance is available)

Retreat for Priests

"People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat.  Jesus said to them, 'Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while'" (Mk 6:30-32).  Our constant activity at the service of souls is taxing.  Christ calls us to rest in him.  Our hearts hear the call and desire to be alone with God so we can rediscover our first love.

Find this space, both externally and internally, at our 11th annual Retreat for Priests!  Our Lady of Santa Clara Retreat Center offers an optimal setting with its scenic view of the Bay Area, nearby hiking trails, and comfortable facilities including spacious, personal bedrooms with complete bathrooms.

Fr Daniel Wilson will lead the retreat according to the themes of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.  There will be times of prayer in common during the Eucharistic concelebrations and guided meditations, as well as ample private prayer so each one can make his own personal journey with the Lord.

We will provide transportation to and from San Jose, San Francisco, or Oakland Airports.  You may stay an extra day, for a fun, sight-seeing tour of the Bay Area on Saturday, January 12th.  If you would like to extend your retreat or would prefer to do a personal retreat at another time, please contact us for possible accommodations.

The Seven Deadly Sins & Seven Lively Virtues

A DEEP LOOK AT SIN AND VIRTUE

Please join our Mens Group as we present and discuss Bishop Robert Barron's engaging program concerning the seven deadly sins, those daunting spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another.  Based on Dante’s writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven levels of Dante’s Mt. Purgatory.  Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice, and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness.  However, Bishop Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, which are the “seven lively virtues." The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness.

Dates:

Jan 8th - Introduction, Pride & Humility (at LC residence)

Feb 12th - Envy & Admiration

Mar 12th - Anger & Forgiveness (at LC residence)

Faith and Science Series: Eucharistic Miracles

Eucharistic Miracles & their Scientific Investigations

We've all heard about Eucharistic Miracles, but what are they really?  Are they mere legend, frauds or true wonders?  What does the Church teach about them?  There are plenty of recent "EM's" and relics that have been subjected to multiple, independent scientific studies, that can help us understand more of the mystery of the Eucharist.  The unraveling of these investigations can get tangled in a false dichotomy between Faith & Science, but in fact they can lead us to a better appreciation and love for the sacrament that is the  "Source & Summit" of our Catholic faith.

Women’s Evenings: Fearless and Free, Part II: The Workshop - Holy Week Healing Support Group

Fearless & Free, Part II: The Workshop

The Fearless & Free workbook is incredibly rich, and many of you may not have the opportunity to complete all the lessons. Thus, the idea is to make use of our workbooks by reviewing certain questions and passages and by putting some of the training exercises for spiritual warrior princesses into action.

March 19: Confession & Adoration

We'll draw on Lessons four, five, and six for an evening of Reconciliation and Adoration. In day five of Lesson four, Mature, Lisa provides a list to help us "get moving up the hill." She asks the Holy Spirit to convict her of secret sins and she vows to go to confession. In the prayer that concludes Lesson 5: The Wrestling, we are likewise encouraged to emerge from the shadowlands of sin.

Finally, you might review the prayer at the end of Lesson 6. Lisa quotes Saint John Bosco who writes about the importance of Adoration in his memoirs. "Do you want our Lord to grant you many graces? Visit Him often…Visiting the Blessed Sacrament is essential if you want to overcome the Devil. Therefore make frequent visits to Jesus. If you do that, the Devil will never prevail against you."

As usual, we'll be begin with mass and dinner. We'll follow up with a brief talk on confession and then we'll have the opportunity to confess ourselves and to adore the Blessed Sacrament.

April 16: Holy Week Healing Support Group

Erin Keller will introduce the reading method she has devised for the Healing Support Group. After mass and dinner, we'll break into small groups and let the gospel speak to us. This week we'll make use of Fr. John Bartunek's "The Better Part: A Guide to Scripture". Review Lesson four and Ephesians four where the emphasis is on community.

May 28: Iconography, Meditation, and the Rosary

To honor our Lord's mother, this meeting will focus on the rosary to honor our Lord's mother. We'll return to the prayer request pages in our workbooks to transform our troubles into petitions to the Blessed Virgin. Then I will walk everyone through a meditation with some famous paintings. Praying the rosary as a group is all the more powerful so be ready to free yourself of cares, doubts, and woes.

June 18: Scripture Memory

We'll make use of Appendices five & six, the "I-Declares" and "Scripture Memory," in order to sharpen our swords on the word of God. Please bring a bible along with your Fearless & Free Workbook.
